The Journey
of the German Cars
Audi, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes- Benz, and
Volkswagen, these are the part of an elite group of high performance
automobiles – the German cars. German cars are beautiful and you will
see many of these cars being driven on our roads today. It has become a
large automobile industry today. Their autos have been used by the
military down through the years, but where is the German car industry
standing today?

The German car was the first to be developed
by Karl Benz and Nikolaus Otto. They made the first combustible engine
in 870. Karl Benz took a couch and fitted the engine to it to develop
the modernized motor car. By the early 1900s, they were producing
almost a thousand cars over the course of a year.
The industrial movement in 1920 is what
shaped the German auto industry and the German car. Now in the early
1930s, the collapse of the German economy made way for the American
automotive industry. Germany had over eighty different car companies,
but after the Depression there were only a little over twenty car
companies that were still in production, Daimler-Benz being one of
them. In the later 1930s, the German car industry began to turn around
when the Nazi party came into power. Hitler had a policy called
“motorisierung”, which means that he wanted to raise Germany’s living
standard. They developed cheap cars for the public.
Today Germany has about six German car
companies that strive to be dominant in the automobile industry. About
six million cars are produced in Germany on the average year, while
almost five million of those cars being produced in Germany (Wikipedia).
In later years, the German cars became
indispensable to the military. Usually only the wealthy or people in
the upper crust were the only ones to own the automobiles. The wealthy
owned these cars to show off how wealthy they were or to show how
skilled they were at maneuvering the cars. The nationalists wanted to
make the German cars available to the military to increase their chances
of successfully winning their wars. The Board Chairman of the German
Weaponry and Ammunition factory applied to have a military automotive
corps started. The application was voted on and passed. The use of the
vehicles in the military maneuvers helped the troops to be successful in
their fighting.
Throughout the years, Germany’s economy has
mainly been based on the manufacturing of the German cars. The German
car industry has been mass producing their cars since 920, so the auto
industry employs over give million people to work in their manufacturing
facilities. That is two out of every ten people that are employed by
German car manufacturers.

The predictions for the German car industry
for the 2009 year are not good. Early on in the year, the industry
hired more help in order to help manufacture their automobiles, and
because the economy has been in such turmoil around the world, sales
have gone way down and there has been a large decrease in demand for the
German cars. This decrease in demand has caused many manufacturing
plants to close and many people have lost their jobs. According to
statistics, the German car industry employs over 750,000 people, which
is over 13,000 people than last year.
The next time you are out shopping for a new
automobile, take a gander at some of the popular German cars brands,
they are very sleek and comfortable with many accessories, and they
maneuver on the highways just beautifully. Besides being nice to look
at, many of them are very economical.
